Stockholm, Sweden + Reykjavik, Iceland

The CEE Sweden+ Study Abroad Program is intended to enhance the student experience by providing meaningful international experiences aligned with two courses in the Georgia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum: CEE 4560 Origami Engineering and CEE 4005 Innovation & Entrepreneurship in CEE Systems. Integrated within the technical instruction, Origami Engineering infuses the creative design process and prototyping processes and Innovation & Entrepreneurship centers on extending such prototypes into the market. CEE Sweden+ embeds in CEE 4801 Global Innovation in CEE. This new course bridges the two aforementioned courses by offering cohesive course content and a Spring Break trip that will give exclusive access to a Swedish start-up company who has used origami principles to develop a method of using curved folding in steel manufacturing. Students in the program will tour the company’s headquarters and facility, see demonstrations of their technology, and have time to use their equipment. The second portion of the trip will focus on exposing students to an area of the world facing global climate challenges such that they can identify creative solutions. In this year, we chose Iceland as this location.
